Maringa people, traditional owners and rangers work together to protect our culture and country, following traditional law.
Working on Country
Crocodile Islands Rangers combine traditional knowledge with conservation training to protect and manage their land, sea and culture. Ranger work provides meaningful employment, training and career pathways.
Learning on Country
Our Learning on Country program gives school students the opportunity to learn with a cultural teacher in the field. In partnership with Milingimbi School the program aims to transfer and preserve Yolngu culture and knowledge.
Indigenous Protected Area Plan
Our Indigenous Protected Area plan expresses our intent to manage our country as a protected area for the promotion of biodiversity and cultural resource conservation, for the benefit of all Maringa people – past, present and future.
Where we work
The Crocodile Islands are located in north east Arnhem Land, approximately 500km east of Darwin. The rangers manage approximately 40,000 hectares of land, 200km of coastline and 6000km2 of sea country. The Rangers are based on Milingimbi Island and our work is focused on Rapuma, Murrungga, Langgara and the remote Gurriba Island.
